Let’s talk Tapestry

But

don’t expect anything too literal –

neither restoration nor reconstruction

I use vocabulary to maintain a link.

I want to play –

to evoke not describe,

nor illustrate

The Sea

The sea is a nomad

Wandering from land to land

Destined never to rest in pools

Or to find eternal calm.

The sea is pushed and pulled

By the moon, the wind and sun

Unseen forces that drag

Saltwater onto terra firma.

Mountain Mist

The mist clings to me as I walk,

dotting my skin with gems of cold.

To left and right

there should be peaks and plunging valleys,

but I see nothing that I cannot touch.

By the Itterbeek

a slow weedy stream

      a heron rises

crosses my gravelly path

flies through leaning oaks

      to land

steps through green pasture

Summer Morning

(Reflection on 'Summer Evening' a sonnet by John Clare)

In the dew, footprints marked by silver jewels,

Below the pond the iris banks, plashed white and gold

half-hide the chicken coop, shut tight

A Day Out in London

I love a day out in London it’s not hard

With a one-day travel card

This will get me around without a fuss

By tube, train or bus

The first stop is Covent Garden for a coffee and a bun

And watch the street entertainers who are so much fun

Autumn Interim

The last, best embers

  Of the summer’s heat

     Are in September’s gift.

     A gentle, yellow thrift,

   Filtered by depleted

Trees. The air remembers.

Avocados

Avocados

Your avocado is sanguine.

It believes it can ripen

even in a cold room.

It cannot wait to be cut

and expose its flesh to you.
